Day Camp: Sports Week

Rising Pre-K 4 - 6th $200
Led by Camp Staff

Play ball! This week is all about the wide world of sports and getting active! Come join us for a fun filled week of games, sports, and even the famous Upper Camp Olympics! We will also have a sports dress up day on Thursday, July 11, for campers to wear their favorite team colors or sports uniform.

We are busy planning exciting field trips for our day campers! Check back soon for more information about field trips for Session 6.

The JCDS Summer Day camp program is an action packed week of fun activities, indoor and outdoor games, swimming, arts and crafts, and more! Campers will be divided into cabins by age and will be led by the energetic JCDS Camp Staff. Campers will also engage in special projects and games based on the weekly theme.

Music and Yoga

Rising Pre-K 4 - 1st $300
presented by Missy Melba and Molly Richardson

Join us for a wonderful combination of music movement and kids yoga. Campers will learn about musical rhythms, instruments, and tonal patterns in the mornings. In the afternoons, students will learn poses such as downward dog, eagle, and warrior. We will read stories, sing songs, and play games throughout the day. JCDS Pre-K 4 teacher Missy Melba with assistance from Mrs. Molly Richardson, will lead campers through a fun music and movement and yoga filled week.

The Knight School Chess Camp

Rising 1st - 6th $325
presented by The Knight School

Checkmate! We are proud to partner with the Knight School to offer a fun filled week of strategy, games and lessons all revolving around the classic game of chess. Players of all skill levels are invited to join us for this introduction into the world of rooks, pawns, kings and queens. Students will exercise their critical thinking skills through a variety of chess based games and activities. This camp will be led by the Knight School’s chess instructors.

Rising 1st - 6th $300
presented by Karate America

JCDS Summer Camp is proud to partner with Karate America to offer traditional martial arts in a fun, constructive, and structured environment. This program teaches specialty campers focus and discipline while learning cool martial arts moves. Camp activities include fundamentals of taekwondo, gymnastics/acrobatic kicking, fun physical games, and memorization of pro competition form! Campers that have completed at least 2 weeks of Karate Camp will be able to participate in the Belt Ceremony on Friday, July 12, at 1:30 p.m.

Campers that are not currently Karate America students will need to purchase a basic equipment package for $125. The uniform and white belt are free for all new students.

Step Up 2nd Grade

Rising 2nd $300
presented by Lindsey Upchurch

This Step Up specialty camp is specifically designed for rising 2nd grade students at JCDS. The camp will be action-packed with research-based curriculum such as Singapore Math and the Orton-Gillingham reading program. This is a great opportunity to brush off those summer cobwebs and give your child an overview of math and literacy through a multi-sensory approach. JCDS 1st Grade Teacher Lindsey Upchurch will lead this program.

Summer Sculptures

Rising 3rd - 6th $350
presented by Mariah Cagle

Come explore your creative side with a sculpture packed week. Campers will take on a different sculpture project each day and end the week with 5 unique pieces to take home. This course will challenge students to think about the materials they have all around them in their homes and how they can be used to make wonderful 3-D art projects. Campers will get to paint, design, cut, glue, measure, brainstorm, draw, and tape throughout the week. This program will be led by JCDS Art Sharks Instructor Mariah Cagle.

Math and Language Arts Refresher

Rising 3rd - 6th $300
presented by Dona Kenny

Did you take a break from utilizing your math and reading skills over the summer? If so, come dust them off with this fun refresher course. Each camper will receive an initial diagnostic assessment and work independently at the appropriate level. This program is appropriate for learners at all levels, and the instructor will make sure each student is challenged. Parents will receive a written report of their camper’s progress at the end of the session. JCDS 5th Grade Teacher Dona Kenny will lead this camp.
